Hana Danan, Ph.D.

Cofounder and Director

Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Analysis from University of Kentucky (USA) and B.Sc. in Pharmacy from Damascus University (Syria). After post-doctoral studies at University of Kentucky, she gained industrial experience working in product development divisions of Sola-Barnes Hind (now Sola Vision, USA) and Parke-Davis/Warner-Lambert (now Pfizer, USA), working on liquid, semisolid and solid dosage forms development, analytical development and validation. In 1996 she established her own consulting firm, SiTec International Consulting, in the US, and transferred it to Italy in 2000. SiTec has been providing consultancy and training services to the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, and to institutions such as Technology and Science Parks. At SiTec, Dr. Danan consolidated an international base of clients, and a network of qualified academic and private institution to meet the client’s specific needs. Dr. Danan has a wide experience in research and development of drug products, in cGMP and cGLP compliance, and in regulatory aspects of pharmaceutical products, mostly related to the CMC parts of dossiers.

Dr. Pierandrea Esposito

Cofounder and Associate Director

He has more than 20 years experience in pharmaceutical and biotech industry, focused on drug delivery and drug development; he held several directive or management positions at Esteve (Spain), SiTec Consulting (Italy), Critical Pharmaceuticals Ltd (UK), Serono (Italy), Vectopharma (Italy, now Eurand). He worked in pharmaceutical development, from late discovery / feasibility stages to clinical phases and preregistration activities, developing products based on delivery systems, advanced formulations, and conjugation technologies. His scientific interests focus in biomolecules delivery, in drug solubilization, absorption of small molecules for oral and transmucosal routes, in physical pharmacy. He is also interested in the application of imaging techniques to drug delivery. Dr. Esposito graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, University of Trieste, (Italy). He was visiting scientist at University of Kentucky (USA), adjunct professor at University of Sao Paulo (Brasil), and at University "A.Avogadro", Novara (Italy). He authored more than 20 publications, he is a coinventor in 15 patents, and a member of Scientific Editorial Boards of several international journals.

Sandra Bukkens

She holds a degree in Human Nutrition from Wageningen University (NL), and has international experience at Rowett Research Institute, Aberdeen, (UK) (1988-1989); Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA (1992-1995). With the Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca per gli Alimenti e la Nutrizione she took parts in projects in Ethiopia (1990), on adaptation to seasonal food shortages; in P.R. China (1995-1996) on Integrated Analysis of the effects on sustainability of the intensification of agriculture in rural areas of China; and in a European Project on multi-criteria evaluation of quality in the food system of modern societies (1998-2001). She has published more than 20 of either book chapters or papers on internationally refereed journals. Her scientific expertise covers human metabolism, characterization of sustainability and performance of food systems in relation to different dimensions of analysis, food ecology,non-conventional protein sources (e.g. minilivestocks and entomophagy). She has also experience in the organization of international conferences, workshops and summer schools; in the coordination and scientific secretariat of international projects and conferences.

Pilar Barceló Ensesa, Ph.D.

Dr. Barceló is founding partner and CEO of Agrasys, a technology based Agri-Food company. She has extensive research experience in biotechnology and plant genetics, specializing in agricultural biotechnology applied to cereals. She also has successful track record in fund raising for start-ups, contract negotiation and licensing.
Dr. Barceló gained her research experience working for public bodies (universities and research institutes) Spanish and multinational companies. Prior to joining Agrasys, she held positions at CSIC institute for Sustainable Agriculture in Cordoba (Spain), in Max-Planck Institut in Cologne (Germany), Hamburg University (Germany), Rothamsted Experimental Station (UK), and in DuPont (USA and UK). She holds a Ph.D. in genetic research from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
